Kahakui half way: Hawaii paddler Donna Kahakui completed almost half of her Adventure Aloha 2000 journey around the island of Oahu by late yesterday afternoon.
Kahakui paddled her one-person canoe into Haleiwa Harbor at 3:15 p.m. yesterday, about four hours ahead of her projected time. She was scheduled to rest until midnight before paddling from Haleiwa to Kahana Bay. She is expected to arrive at Kahana Bay today around 1:30 p.m.
Kahakui’s solo paddle started Thursday night at 7 p.m. off the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki. She is attempting to circle Oahu — a 113-mile course — finishing back at the Hilton Hawaiian Village tomorrow around 4 p.m.
Kahakui is paddling for Kai Makana, a non-profit organization that promotes “ocean education through action.”
