Native Plant Restoration

Farrington High School students have been working to clear the invasive plant species along a section of coast on Mokauea Island. The cleared invasive plant species (primarily pickleweed) are being replaced with cuttings and seedlings of Naupaka kahakai (Scaevola sericea), Nena (Heliotropium curassavicum), 'Aki'aki (Sporobolus virginicus), 'Akulikuli (Sesuvium portulacastrum), Pohuehue (Ipomoea pes_caprae), and Pohinahina (Vitex rotundifolia).

Photopoint monitoring of the site shows progress of the invasive species removal as well as native plant growth.
